Guérande at 10 minutes from the campsite
At the gates of the campsite le Chateau du Petit Bois, the city of Guérande awaits you for a visit of its superb medieval city and its famous salt marshes throughout the country. Here is a little taste of what you will encounter in Guérande during your stay in South Brittany...
Discover Guérande and its salt marshes
It is impossible to pass by the salt marshes when visiting the city of Guérande. Especially since the latter extend to other surrounding municipalities such as La Turballe, Le Croisic or Batz-sur-Mer. The Mès marshes are also associated with the Guérande peninsula. During your walks or bike rides around the salt flats, you can only be charmed by this magnificent nature offering walkers remarkable landscapes as far as the eye can see. You will quickly understand why so many bird species have chosen to live here because of its abundant biodiversity. Your stay in Guérande will of course be an opportunity to discover all the secrets of white gold and to learn more about the work of salt workers and salting. Visit the Maison des paludiers or Terre de Sel for a fun and informative visit of the salt marshes. You can buy the famous fleur de sel de Guérande which will wonderfully accompany your dishes. Not to mention salted butter caramel, a rather addictive gustatory treasure!
Follow in the footsteps of the medieval city of Guérande
Guérande is also famous for its medieval city which gives it a unique atmosphere. Cross the Saint-Michel gate and visit the ramparts (no, you are not in Saint-Malo or Carcassonne!) to immerse yourself in the history of the Dukes of Brittany. The alleys are charming and some historical monuments such as the Notre-Dame-La-Blanche chapel or the Saint-Aubin Church are worth a visit. Guérande is also a good place to shop and it is good to stop in one of the many shops in the city to leave with some sweets and souvenirs from the region. There are plenty of bars and restaurants to relax on the terrace and enjoy the local cuisine. To fill up with fresh produce and seasonal vegetables, you can go to the Saturday morning market, it should provide you with all the food you need to prepare good meals in your mobile home or pitch. Guérande is a lively city, especially during the summer with flagship events such as the medieval festival of Guérande, which invites us to immerse ourselves in the 15th century through multiple shows and activities that enliven the walled city over the course of a weekend. We also don't forget the must-attend events such as the music festival or July 14, even if you will notice that in Guérande every day is an opportunity for festivities and a warm atmosphere.
